Live Nation and Ticketmaster keep fleecing live music fans — and Trump’s Department of Justice just offered them a slap on the wrist.
Trying to see your favorite artist now means facing hidden fees, “dynamic pricing,” and tickets that somehow double or triple before checkout. That’s not an accident. It’s what happens when one corporation controls ticket sales, concert promotion, and many of the biggest venues in America.
An antitrust lawsuit could have finally broken up Live Nation’s monopoly. Instead, Trump’s DOJ agreed to a weak settlement with minor concessions that barely dent the company’s dominance. While the settlement may not yet be final, it’s clear that Congress must demand real reform.
Several state attorneys general who are party to the antitrust lawsuit argue the DOJ’s settlement barely dents Live Nation’s stranglehold on the live entertainment industry.
That dominance costs fans. Fees explode ticket prices, independent venues struggle to compete, and artists are trapped in a system controlled by a single corporate giant.
Lawmakers must investigate the DOJ’s weak settlement and corruption, hold hearings on Live Nation’s monopoly power, and pass legislation to restore real competition in the ticketing industry. Breaking up Live Nation and Ticketmaster would mean fair prices for fans and real freedom for artists.
But Congress won’t act unless the public demands it.
Thanks for everything you do.
