Demand Facebook Reverse Their Anti-LGBTQ Hate Speech Rules!

In yet another shocking capitulation to Trump and the virulently homophobic right-wing, Meta has shockingly announced that it is open season for hate speech on its platform. Under its newly updated policies on hateful conduct, Meta will allow be allowing its users to accuse LGBTQ people of being mentally ill. They will also now be allowing women to be referred to as property and transgender people as "it." “We do allow allegations of mental illness or abnormality when based on gender or sexual orientation, given political and religious discourse about transgenderism and homosexuality,” Meta’s policies read. 

This is stunning backsliding on basic human decency that is explicitly designed to curry favor with the incoming administration and their hateful supporters. Online spaces have never been particularly welcoming or safe for LGBTQ people, but now the guardrails are gone entirely — and it's well documented that encouraging anti-LGBTQ rhetoric on social media eventually manifests itself as anti-LGBTQ attacks in real life, putting both the mental health and the lives of LGBTQ Americans at serious risk. Meta needs to reverse these policy changes IMMEDIATELY.
