Denounce Elon Musk's Defense of "Nudify" Apps

Elon Musk’s AI company is fighting to keep the door open for one of the internet’s most abusive technologies.

Minnesota passed a groundbreaking law to stop websites, apps, and AI tools from letting users create fake nude images of people without their consent. These “nudify” tools can turn ordinary photos into sexualized deepfakes in seconds, violating people’s privacy, dignity, reputations, and safety.

Now xAI, Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company owned by SpaceX, is suing Minnesota to block the law before it even takes effect. The company claims the ban is too broad and violates free speech. But there is nothing defensible about technology that enables sexual exploitation with the click of a button.

Tell Elon Musk and xAI: “Withdraw your lawsuit against Minnesota’s nudification law and stop fighting protections for victims of AI-generated sexual abuse.”

Minnesota’s law gives victims the right to sue and allows serious penalties against companies that enable this abuse. That matters because nonconsensual deepfake sexual images are not harmless experiments. They are tools of harassment, humiliation, blackmail, and exploitation — and women, girls, LGBTQ+ people, public figures, students, and survivors are often the ones targeted first.

xAI says it already bans users from generating nonconsensual sexual images. If that is true, then Elon Musk’s company should be helping strengthen protections, not trying to tear them down in court. A company that profits from powerful AI tools should be responsible for making sure those tools are not used to sexually exploit real people.
