Denounce Tech Billionaires for Cozying Up to Trump

Mark Zuckerberg of Meta, Jeff Bezos of Amazon, and Sam Altman of OpenAI are aligning themselves with Donald Trump by contributing $1 million each to his inauguration fund.

This cozying up to a leader known for undermining democratic norms and promoting divisive policies is a betrayal of the values their companies claim to uphold.

We call on Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Sam Altman, and other tech leaders to immediately withdraw their financial support for Trump’s inauguration and cancel any planned meetings at Mar-a-Lago. Their actions should reflect a commitment to democratic values and social responsibility, not opportunistic alliances with authoritarian figures.

Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta made its $1 million donation despite Trump previously threatening to imprison Zuckerberg. His recent meeting with Trump at Mar-a-Lago suggests a willingness to prioritize corporate interests over democratic principles.

Similarly, Jeff Bezos’s Amazon has contributed $1 million. Bezos, who has clashed with Trump over The Washington Post’s critical coverage, is now scheduled to meet with Trump, raising concerns about whether financial contributions are influencing policy agendas.

Sam Altman of OpenAI has also pledged $1 million, publicly supporting Trump’s vision to lead the U.S. into the “age of AI.” This move indicates a troubling alignment with an administration that has consistently disregarded ethical considerations in technology deployment.

These actions by tech leaders are not just about securing favorable policies; they represent a tacit endorsement of Trump’s authoritarian tendencies and divisive rhetoric. By financially supporting his inauguration and seeking personal audiences, these billionaires are complicit in normalizing and enabling an agenda that threatens the fabric of our democracy.

Sign this petition to demand that tech billionaires stand up for democracy and cease their support for Donald Trump. Let’s send a clear message: corporate wealth should not be used to undermine the principles that uphold our society.
