FCC Chairman Brendan Carr just threatened broadcasters with consequences for sharing political polling. In a social media post he warned against reporting on “fake polls” that he said could impact “voter turnout and enthusiasm.” Experts are calling his threats unconstitutional, illegal, and a violation of the First Amendment. A group of high-ranking former FCC officials even released a letter condemning the threats as an attempt to "censor and control the information available to Americans" just before the midterm elections. We can't stand by while Chairman Carr illegally bullies broadcasters to hide the administration's deep unpopularity. Tell Congress to protect the First Amendment and impeach FCC Chairman Carr. This isn't the first time Chairman Carr has tried to intimidate broadcasters over their coverage of the Trump administration. During his tenure, he pressured ABC to pull late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and threatened to revoke broadcasting licenses over news stations’ coverage of the Iran War. Freedom of the press is a fundamental protection under the First Amendment. Chairman Carr has a responsibility to respect that freedom, even when he disagrees with what journalists report. Sign the petition to Congress and tell them to impeach FCC Chairman Carr. The petition to Congress reads: "FCC Chairman Carr has repeatedly violated First Amendment rights – threatening broadcasters for reporting on information unfavorable to the Trump administration and now for sharing polls on the midterm election. If he is unable to uphold his responsibility to the Constitution he must go. Impeach FCC Chairman Carr."
