Tom Barrett, a Republican candidate in Michigan’s closely contested congressional race, is under fire for running misleading ads targeting Black voters. The ad, which ran in the Michigan Bulletin, a Black-owned publication serving Lansing, tells voters to cast their ballot on November 6 – the wrong date. This attempt to confuse a voters comes at a critical time—Black voters are expected to play a key role in deciding the outcome of this election, as well as the upcoming presidential race in Michigan. That's why leading Black elected officials in Michigan are calling for an investigation. State Senators Erika Geiss and Sarah Anthony have condemned Barrett’s ad, pointing out that it "could be part of an intentional strategy to deter Black voters by deceiving them into showing up to vote on the day after the 2024 election.” These actions reflect a broader pattern of voter suppression efforts by Republicans across the country, aimed at keeping turnout low among communities of color. We must ensure that all voters can cast their ballots without fear or confusion. Sign this petition to urge Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel and the Michigan Bureau of Elections to investigate Tom Barrett’s ad and hold him accountable for voter suppression tactics.
