Stop the Republican Attack on Public Education

Public education is under attack. Across the country, Republican lawmakers in states like Florida, Kentucky, Texas, and Ohio are waging a war on public schools, teachers, and students. From banning books to slashing funding, the GOP is working to dismantle the cornerstone of America’s democracy: a free, inclusive, and high-quality education for all.

Republican legislatures are pushing a deeply unpopular school voucher agenda, diverting public school funding to private institutions that often exclude low-income families and fail to provide the same level of accountability. In Florida, sweeping restrictions on curriculum have left teachers fearful of punishment simply for doing their jobs. 

In Kentucky, Governor Andy Beshear has called out these attacks, urging lawmakers to end their harmful efforts, saying, “It’s time to stop vilifying our public schools and focus on building a better future for all of our kids.”

The consequences of these attacks are devastating. Laws are being passed to ban discussions of race, gender, and history in classrooms, stifling critical thinking and erasing the lived experiences of countless Americans. Public school budgets are being gutted, leaving teachers without resources and students without the opportunities they deserve.

Teachers, students, and families deserve leaders who will fight for them—not against them. We must push back against these attacks and demand that lawmakers prioritize strengthening, not dismantling, public education.
