Stop Trump from Taking Health Coverage from Cancer Patients

Donald Trump’s administration is forcing cancer patients to prove they are sick enough to keep their health care.

A new Medicaid rule from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services narrows exemptions from harsh work requirements, putting low-income cancer patients, survivors, and people undergoing testing at risk of losing coverage because of paperwork and delays.

Cancer treatment does not wait for bureaucracy. Chemotherapy, surgery, scans, prescriptions, transportation, recovery, and follow-up care can make steady work impossible. Punishing patients for missing an arbitrary 80-hour monthly requirement while they are fighting for their lives is cruel and indefensible.

Tell CMS Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz: stop this cruel rule and protect Medicaid coverage for cancer patients.

Twenty-five states and Washington, D.C. are already suing the Trump administration, arguing that CMS is restricting exemptions Congress created for vulnerable Medicaid beneficiaries. Cancer advocates are warning that patients could lose coverage, face gaps in care, or be forced to track down medical proof while already dealing with diagnosis, treatment, and financial stress.

Medicaid is a lifeline for millions of people, including patients who rely on it for cancer screenings, early detection, treatment, and survival. We can't let the Trump administration take that lifeline away.
