Stop Trump’s DOJ from Letting Gun Dealers Off the Hook

According to multiple reports, the Trump administration is preparing to revoke the ATF’s zero-tolerance policy for gun dealers who break the law — a dangerous move that could put countless lives at risk and fuel even more gun violence in communities across the country.

The House and Senate Judiciary Committees are tasked with overseeing the Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). They have the power to step in — and the duty to speak out — before this reckless policy is finalized.

This policy was put in place to ensure that gun dealers who violate federal law — such as selling firearms without background checks, failing to maintain records, or knowingly transferring guns to individuals who are legally prohibited from owning them — face real consequences. Ending this policy would give rogue dealers a free pass and make it easier for dangerous individuals to access deadly weapons.

If the Trump administration moves forward with this rollback, the results will be devastating. It will mean more guns in the hands of domestic abusers, violent criminals, and others who pose a threat to public safety. It will mean more mass shootings, more daily gun violence, and more families and communities shattered by preventable tragedies. And when that happens, the blood will be on the Trump administration’s hands.

But the responsibility doesn’t stop there. If Republicans in Congress refuse to conduct oversight, they will be complicit. They’ll bear the blame for standing by while the administration undermines basic public safety protections.

We need action, not silence. Add your name to demand that the House and Senate Judiciary Committees stop Trump’s DOJ from weakening enforcement against rogue gun dealers and protect the laws that help keep our communities safe.
