Tell Biden to Veto the GOP's Anti-Trans Defense Bill

This year, Republicans have hidden poison-pill amendments that would ban gender-affirming care for the children of American service members in the gargantuan $895 billion National Defense Appropriations Act, and Democrats are outraged.

The transphobic additions were slipped in at the behest of right-wing religious extremist Speaker Mike Johnson. 20 Democrats, led by America’s first openly LGBTQ Senator Tammy Baldwin, tried to stop the bill’s passage with an amendment to cut those riders from the bill.  “Let’s be clear: we’re talking about parents who are in uniform serving our country who have earned the right to make the best decisions for their families. I trust our servicemembers and their doctors to make the best healthcare decisions for their kids, not politicians. Our amendment would protect military families’ right to make their own decisions and access sometimes lifesaving care for their children,” said Baldwin in a statement. 

Unfortunately, the Senate passed the bill anyway, and it now heads to the President’s desk to be signed into law. President Biden needs to send this bill back to Congress and tell them to stop exploiting our national security to impose their transphobic policies!
