Tell Congress: Stop the FBI from Harassing Nonprofits

The FBI is targeting nonprofits—and it could silence the very voices that hold power accountable.

New reports reveal that the Trump administration is ramping up a coordinated effort between the FBI and IRS to investigate nonprofit organizations under the vague pretext of “domestic terrorism.” Civil society groups, advocacy organizations, and charities are now at risk of intrusive surveillance, audits, and politically motivated investigations simply for speaking out or organizing for change.

Nonprofits are the backbone of our democracy. They fight for clean air and water, protect voting rights, defend workers, and provide critical services to communities in need. If these organizations are intimidated into silence, entire movements for justice could be shut down.

Congress has the power—and the responsibility—to act. Lawmakers must launch immediate oversight hearings, demand transparency from the FBI and DOJ, and pass clear protections to prevent political targeting of nonprofits. When enough of us speak out, Congress listens. Public pressure can force investigations, expose wrongdoing, and stop this crackdown before it becomes entrenched.
