Tell DHS: Stop the Sham Voter Fraud Hunt

A Department of Homeland Security whistleblower just revealed that federal immigration officers were told to break state laws in a reckless hunt for so-called "unlawful voters."

According to a Senate report, USCIS personnel were directed to use people’s personal information to search state voter registration systems, even if that meant misrepresenting themselves on state election websites. Officers were pressured to create federal law enforcement records based on unreliable data that could falsely flag eligible voters, including naturalized U.S. citizens.

The League of Women Voters called the allegations “a five-alarm fire for American democracy,” warning that every eligible voter deserves to participate free from fear, harassment, or wrongful investigation.

Tell DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin and USCIS Director Joseph B. Edlow: Shut down the “Unlawful Voter Initiative” now and stop using unreliable data to target voters.

These allegations are especially alarming because they come just weeks before the midterm elections. 

Hundreds of federal employees were reportedly pulled away from their regular fraud detection and national security work to chase conspiracy theories about noncitizen voting, even though courts have rejected the administration’s attempts to force states to hand over voter data.

Stop directing officers to access state voter records under false pretenses, delete or correct any law enforcement records created from unreliable data, notify affected individuals, preserve all records for congressional and inspector general review, and protect the whistleblower from retaliation."
