Tell Google: Stop Supporting Anti-Trans Hate Groups

Google is using its advertising grants to help an anti-LGBTQ+ hate group spread dangerous attacks on transgender people.

According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, Google’s Ad Grants program has subsidized search ads for Do No Harm, a group SPLC identifies as anti-LGBTQ+. 

Those ads promoted anti-trans “detransition” messaging, attacks on gender-affirming care, and anti-diversity claims that echo broader hard-right campaigns against trans people and communities of color.

Google cannot hide behind a disclaimer saying it does not endorse the ads. When a company gives free advertising power to a hate group, it is helping that group reach more people, shape public debate, and push policies that put vulnerable communities at risk.

Tell Google CEO Sundar Pichai: Stop subsidizing ads from anti-trans hate groups and enforce clear standards that keep Google’s resources from fueling bigotry.

Anti-trans groups use fear and misinformation to undermine healthcare, censor LGBTQ+ content, and justify discrimination in schools, hospitals, legislatures, and online spaces. When Google amplifies those messages, it makes the harm bigger.

Google’s Ad Grants program is supposed to support nonprofits doing public good. It should not become a backdoor subsidy for organizations spreading anti-trans propaganda or anti-diversity conspiracy theories.

Google has the tools to fix this. It can remove hate groups from Ad Grants eligibility, audit past grants, strengthen enforcement standards, and publicly commit that its advertising resources will not be used to attack LGBTQ+ people, racial justice, or civil rights.
