A new report from the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) warns that anti-government domestic terrorism is on the rise, posing a growing threat to communities across the country. According to the report, domestic terrorism incidents—some involving military veterans—have increased significantly in recent years. Despite these alarming trends, the federal response has not been aggressive enough to curb this dangerous threat. The report highlights that anti-government extremists are targeting public institutions, election offices, and marginalized communities, undermining public safety and democracy itself. These domestic terror groups often promote white supremacy, conspiracy theories, and violent anti-government rhetoric, posing a clear and immediate danger. Experts stress that without stronger federal action, these movements will only grow. As CSIS researchers put it: “Ignoring this problem will allow these groups to flourish, leading to further attacks and violence.” The Department of Justice must take immediate steps to crack down on domestic terrorism by dedicating more resources to investigations, strengthening oversight, and prosecuting extremist leaders.
